St. Lucia Map-A-Thon

Map-A-Thon for St. Lucia – February 28 at the Gear Closet

Join us at The Gear Closet on February 28th from 12:00 pm on to participate in the OpenStreetMap Map-athon for St. Lucia.

What is the OpenStreetMap project?
OpenStreetMap is the project that creates and distributes free geographic data for the world. Many maps around the world are incomplete and/or proprietary. The OpenStreetMap project aims to provide free maps for anyone’s use. These can be for private citizens, government, and relief organizations.

How does OpenStreetMap help St. Lucia? The St. Lucia Open Data project says it best:

The specific objectives of the Saint Lucia Open Data Programme are as follows:

  • Stimulate Economic Growth and Business Innovation
  • Improve and sustain good governance based on integrity, transparency and accountability.
  • Increase Government efficiency and effectiveness
  • Improve public services provided to citizens

What can I do to help? I’ve never done any mapping.
Our goal is to help St. Lucia fill in geographic data for their island on OpenStreetMap.org.
If you don’t know how to do this but you are interested and have a laptop, you can come on over and learn how. It’s easy and fun. We’ll put in buildings, insert waterways, and fix map discrepancies. And crack jokes. Lots of jokes.

So if you are in the Chattanooga Area and you want to stop in and map…or buy some outdoor gear…….or both – Please stop by!

Bring a laptop and a mouse for it (tablets not recommended).

It’s fun and easy and you’ll be helping St. Lucia!
